Disciplines: Road, Cyclocross & Track Cycling.
Bikes: Boardman TRK Track, Focus Mares CX & Ritchey Road Logic.
General Info: Nelson is a full time staff member at Pushys working in customer service and has been with us since the early days. When he’s not busy working you will usually find him out training on the road in his local bunches. Nelson comes from an aggressive mountain biking and downhill racing background – though he now feels more comfortable in lycra!
Training schedule: I am usually quite strapped for time with the job so make efforts to train every morning before work. I aim for 300-350kms per week on the road bike.
Hardest thing about the sport: Early mornings!
How do I keep motivated: I have an extremely competitive nature. The drive to compete and win is what motivates me to train everyday. I also just love being on two wheels and going fast!
Goals for 2017: Podiums in weekend criterium racing at Murrarie & Nundah.
My main road race to look forward to this year is battle on the border at the end of April.
I hope to build on my 2016 success in this years Queensland & National Cyclocross Series.
I have also started riding and racing back on the Track at the new Anna Meares Velodrome.
Favourite place to ride: I recently returned from a trip to Adelaide. Riding in the Adelaide hills was spectacular! This would have to be top of the list so far but I hope to make it to Italy in the near future and ride through the Dolomites.
Favourite thing about cycling: Cycling is a great avenue to meet new people. It has introduced me into so many of my close friends on and off the bike. It is also great being in the outdoors and seeing spectacular views whilst riding!
Best advice: Find a local group to ride and train with. Knowing people are relying on you will make sure you get out on the bike. You will also be challenged by others and meet some great people along the way!
Dislikes: Low sock height & miss matched lycra!
