For Commencal, 2017 was a ripper of a year. Myriam Nicole took the overall DH World Cup win, Amaury Pierron came in second at Val di Sole and with Cecile Ravanel and Yoann Barelli tearing up the EWS, the company could hardly ask for a better season. With a pro team like that, when it comes time for Commencal to release the new bikes for 2018, you know they’ve been vetted by the best.
2018 brings about some big changes for the company. A new freeride bike, an updated trail bike, special edition frames and, most controversially, an eBike. In fact, the only thing we aren’t seeing in the new range is a carbon frame. Max Commencal maintains that he won’t touch them with a 10-foot pole, but with the results they’re getting, who can complain?
Supreme SX
Freeride is back. Completely new for 2018, equipped with 180mm of travel, provided by Commencal’s proven downhill High Pivot Point (HPP) swing arm and an anti-chain growth roller guide, this bike is designed for ‘big lines… and for those who want to ride harder,’ according to Yoann Barelli. The added bonus of this bike is that you don’t need a shuttle to get you back to the top of the hill. The SX is available in one build and two colours: black or orange.

The Supreme SX will be available in Europe and the US in December of this year, and Australia in February 2018.
Meta Power
The Meta Power is Commencal’s first attempt at a pedal-assisted mountain bike. Designed from the ground up and built around a Shimano E8000 motor, Commencal has designed their E-bikes with the same geometry as their non-powered bikes, so they ride the same way. With a range of 100 kilometers on a full charge, Commencal says, ‘Who will complain about doubling the amount of runs, without spending any more charge?’
The Meta Power comes in both full suspension and hardtail variations.
The full suspension Meta Power range will be available in Europe and the US in December of this year, and Australia in February 2018. The hardtail version is available now.
