When it comes to escaping cars and enjoying some idyllic scenery, there is nowhere more enjoyable than the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Sure, we have the popular David Low Way, where you will see local chaingangs, as they cruise up and down the Queensland coastline. But, if you are looking for something different and an easy getaway from cars – then below are my favourite 3 rides to do. I start in Coolum, but you can start anywhere along the coast and incorporate these rides.
Sunrise Road Loop with a dash of gravel (95-100km)
Elevation: Undulating with approximately 1200m of climbing
Terrain: Mainly road with 15-20km of compact gravel through farmlands
Coffee stop: Cooroy German Bakehouse – Cooroy. Fresh treats and coffee
Starting direction: North from Coolum Beach (anti-clockwise)
Brandenburg Road to Montville (110-120km)
Elevation: Hilly with approximately 1800m of climbing
Terrain: Steep gravel uphill section up Brandenburg road. Bring the granny gear!
Coffee stop: Shali’s Café – Montville. Good bakery – Legendary croissants.
Starting direction: South from Coolum Beach (clockwise)
Dulong lookout with Nambour return (75-80km)
Elevation: Hilly with approximately 1600m of climbing
Terrain: 5km long climb up to Dulong Lookout from Nambour. Gradual incline before a little pinch in the final 1km.
Coffee stop: Guru Life – Rosemount.
Starting direction: South from Coolum Beach (anti-clockwise)
There are so many rides to choose from on the Sunshine Coast that it is hard to pick a favourite. Each of these rides are enjoyable and will take in a spectacular view of the region.
Have a good ride
